Fujitsu Siemens’ Amilo Mini gets spied on video

Friday, July 25th, 2008

by Joshua Topolsky, posted Jul 25th 2008 at 9:11PM
Hey, remember that teeny-tiny Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Mini we spied a few weeks ago? You do? Good, because we’ve just discovered video of the as-yet-unreleased device in action. According to the source, the device will be officially revealed at IFA this year, and will be priced around €300 to €400 ($475 to $634). It won’t blow your mind, but if you’ve been hoping to see a short, quickly moving fly-by of an extremely diminutive laptop, here’s your chance. Enjoy!

The Alien Mouse that can actually help humans

Friday, July 25th, 2008

I’m sure all of you who work on computers run the terrible risk of carpel tunnel syndrome, or repetitive stress injury, also known as RSI.

I know there have been times I have been working late, and I shake my wrists after feeling the pain.  However, maybe I can get the Alien mouse.

The Alien mouse is inspired by great ergonomics, and designed by Mizanur Rahman.  The mouse is designed to support the wrist, and can even be adjusted for a customized fit.

Believe it or not, there is a vibrator underneath the mouse’s main unit for some extra comfort and relief, and there is a little finger joystick included as well.  There is also some weird mood lighting included, for nothing more than the alien effect.

I’m not certain why it is called the Alien Mouse.  With all its great features, it sounds like it would be a bitter fit for humans.  I can’t see E.T. using this one.

iriver’s Spinn hits the FCC, means nothing

Friday, July 25th, 2008

by Thomas Ricker, posted Jul 25th 2008 at 4:09PM
Sure, it doesn’t look like much thanks to the FCC’s staunch aversion to photo glam, but that’s iriver’s Spinn PMP, a product which had us at a full, rigid swoon back at CES. While this would generally be good news, the model approved features a DAB radio and DMB television tuner — in other words, it’s not intended for US consumption. The user manual also confirms a FM radio, Mini SD slot, Bluetooth, D-Click System interface, 27 hours of audio and 5 hours of video, and support for SWF (Flash), TXT, MP3, WMA, OGG, JPG, AVI, MWV file formats. With FCC approval out of the way, the rumored UK August release date is presumably in the bag.

Chinavasion’s “world’s thinnest” MP4 player just may be accurate in name

Friday, July 25th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Jul 25th 2008 at 8:46AM
Chinavasion isn’t known for offering up cutting-edge gadgetry — far from it, to be honest — but the MP4 player known only as the CVSJ-1304-4GB is actually fairly notable. According to the dodgy specifications, the $39.55 device checks in at just 4.5-millimeters thick, which is certainly thinner than the other so-called “world’s thinnest” DAP. Of course, this may only be true due to the “MP4″ moniker, seeing as most units not created and sold exclusively in China are called “MP3″ players. Semantics aside, the unit also includes a 1.8-inch display with a 160 x 128 resolution, a curious 2.5-millimeter headphone jack, a USB 2.0 port and a rechargeable battery. So, do any of you have a competitor that’s a hair thinner? Our hunch is yes.

Miniot iWood for the iPhone

Friday, July 25th, 2008

After finally realizing that the slow 3G connection on my new iPhone 3G was due to some clever network manipulation by AT&T, I’m now thrilled with my very fast new phone. The new iphone looks almost identical to the original, but the tiny bit of extra width means that the cases for the original will no longer fit. I stuffed my iPhone 3G into a leather case meant for the original, and while I just managed to get its slightly wider load inside the case, after a few hours, the leather cracked. If you want a perfect fit, you’ll have to upgrade your case as well.

Disappointingly, I haven’t found a single case yet that I think is worthy of the iPhone. They’re all clunky and chunky and either add a lot of bulk or a flimsy silicone skin. Generally I would never think of buying a phone case that costs very nearly as much as the phone itself, but Miniot’s beautiful iWood tempts me. The iWood is carved from a single piece of wood, and comes with a personal engraving so you can brand your phone. In five beautiful wood finishes, from Cherry to the actually much redder Padouk, every iWood is slightly different due to the natural material. It’s sleek but the form-fitting style offers excellent protection as well. You can also purchase an optional matching wood dock.

The iWood for iPhone is about $125 (€ 80) and available from Miniot.

And hey, if your company is making cases for the iPhone 3G, something a little unusual or stylish, we’d love to review them. Please contact us, or forward review products to

ZVUE goes retro with the 1GB Journey branded DAP

Friday, July 25th, 2008

ZVUE has just unveiled their latest digital audio player, a special 1GB model that is not only branded with some bitchin’ Journey graphics, but also comes pre-loaded 11 classic tracks as well as 11 that are new.

I will admit a little guilty pleasure when it comes to some of the classic Journey, but still have to ask, they have new stuff? Anyway, perhaps the best part, and maybe the only savior is that that you can pick one up for the low price of $39.88. The Journey branded ZVUE will be available from Wal-Mart online and seems to be available for home delivery or in-store pickup.

I just cannot resist some sarcasm here, but something about a Journey branded player being released in 2008, that is available from Wal-Mart is just screaming no-class. However I am sure there are still some Journey fans that will find this a little to hard to resist. Of course for under 40 bucks that could be a decent player to use when you are afraid of damaging your real portable player.

Friday, July 25th, 2008

We’re into coolest gadget of the week #6, some cool (and (as usual) strange) entries this week , what’s coolest, you decide (one randomly drawn voter/commenter will win a $50 Amazon voucher). Over to the entries:

USB VHS Converter

A cool gadget to resurrect your old VHS tapes, especially those old family videos that will bring back so many memories. This not only enables you to transfer your tapes to DVDs, but also direct to portable video files to take with you on your iPods, PSPs etc. Not to mention it makes for a great business opportunity that will mean that this pays for itself in no time!

The full post can be found at Zath.co.uk.

Lav Nav

It’s the middle of the night and you need the loo. Do you turn on the light and wake yourself up even more and risk waking everyone else up at the same time? Or do you follow the lav nav?

Halloween Howler Recorder

What can be funnier than seeing your friends panicked and on the verge of a heart attack? Nothing indeed… And technology makes it easier every day. The Halloween Howler Recorder is motion-activated, so you just need to place it out of sight, record your own sounds, and enjoy the show. (And there’s no one saying you should only use it for Halloween…)

Coffee is for Killers: the Kill Time Gun Mug

“Step away from the coffee machine, punk. Hands on your head, kneel down with your face to the wall. I need a cup of coffee, dammit.” The Kill Time coffee cup is sure to be the coolest, most intimidating coffee cup in your office. One thing is for sure, no one in their right mind will grab it out of the washing machine and take it without first asking themself, “do I feel lucky?”

Radio Solar Crank

Using gadgets mean we have to waste another electricity, right? Almost all gadgets like that. However, I found something interesting: A useful Gadgets that don’t take any electricity resource at all! It’s a Radio Solar Crank. This radio using 2 main source of energy, one in is the solar cell (if sun permit us) and using human power, we roll the crank so it will produce electricity enough to power up the Radio.

Truck Antlers

Truck antlers turn your truck into a buck! Better than a bumper sticker in telling motorists “I’d rather be hunting.” Mount easily between window and window jam.

Sea Scooter VS Supercharged

As the weather heats up so does the quality of Summer gadgets and this one is no exception. The Sea Scooter VS Supercharged will literally take the legwork out of swimming for you. This dive propulsion vehicle allows you to explore the enigmatic depths of the ocean to 100ft, and with less physical exertion, the oxygen in your tank will last longer meaning you have more underwater discovery time. Finding Nemo just got a lot more fun!

The full post can be found at Gaj-It.

Keruve GPS ‘Stalker’ Watch

The watch transmits a constant GPS position to the included handset, which pinpoints the user’s location for the searcher. The watch also allows users to set certain perimeters, which when passed, will send out a warning notification to show that the barrier has been breached.

IVYSKIN offers new range of iPhone 3G Cases

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Most owners of a new iPhone 3G will definitely be on the lookout for a protective case - that’s only natural. After all, you wouldn’t want to scratch that precious new toy of yours, do you? Since cases come in all shapes (not too much in terms of sizes), it would be prudent to discover which shape fits you and your personality best and you chat away on Apple’s latest rage. IVYSKIN is here to help you by offering a plethora of solutions that will be described in further detail right after the jump, but for a quick preview, we have the Xylo, XyloDuo, and XyloT3.

XyloT3
XyloT3 for iPhone 3G features curved-shaped contours that wrap the new iPhone with a patent pending design of Xylo Surface Technology. The Touch-Thru is a real breakthrough in the industry, as it is a unique, sophisticated and elegant case with the first complete advanced touch interface that registers changes in the ultrasonic waves and position of the touch event and sends this information to the iphone’s screen for processing. This is a truly revolutionary case designed right here in the US.

XyloDuo
Providing the ultimate luxury in iPhone cases, its sophisticated design accentuates the modern individual. Featuring bumper to bumper protection for iPhone 3G and amazing high-graded polysilicon material, XyloDuo’s minimalist all-silicon design integrates a discrete protective screen that blends seamlessly with durable black smooth silicon and is remarkably slim. It features a unique coating on the silicone which gives it a smoother, more polished look and creates a lint free surface.

XyloReflect
Xylo reflect Screen is a solid hard plastic screen that provides a crystal clear view of the iPhone. This unique product has good specular reflection; that is, it is smooth enough to form an image when the iPhone 3G is not in use. The Xylo reflect Screen easily adheres to the iPhone’s screen without the use of any adhesives. It allows your fingers to slide freely, offering full touch sensitivity and screen protection that is second to none in the market today.

After reading up on all three, which is the one you would most likely pick up?

Thanko sells Cooling Keyboard to pair with Cooling Mouse

Friday, July 25th, 2008

It turns out that slightly bizarre mouse with the built-in fan to blow on your hand wasn’t the only odd gadget they had with cooling in mind.  They also have a keyboard that blows on your wrists as you’re clacking away at the keys.  For weirdos like me, they need a heated version that blows hot air directly onto your wrists.  It’s sad when I say that in late July.  I’m just thinking ahead I swear, it’s definitely not that I can’t even cope with air conditioning.

For those that are the sweaty types, this is one more way to make sure that your sweat doesn’t go dripping into the crevices of your keyboard.  Pair this with their cooling mouse and you’ll never have issues again.  As long as you don’t leave the computer that is.  This is of course a Japanese product being Thanko.  However, if you don’t mind having your gadgets shipped from around the world, you could still pick one up.  The keyboard is being sold for 6,650 yen or a whopping $62.  Not to mention the fees it would take to get the product to you.  I suppose for now we can all deal with those little desktop fans.
