Thinkware announces the 7-inch iNAVI ES100+ GPS

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Korean based GPS manufacturer, Thinkware, recently unveiled their high-end 7-inch GPS called the iNAVI ES100+. Interesting model name, to say the least.

The iNAVI ES100+ is a GPS based from the iNAVI ES100, and this one comes with a few extra features to make it better than the last. Basically, it comes with an aforementioned 7-inch touch screen, runs on a 700MHz CPU, 900mAH batteries and built-in rear view camera. It is encased in a metallic silver color, and a brown color and the LED lights are displayed in royal blue.

Additionally, it comes with a DMB receiver with Dynamic Picture-In-Picture, and something called TPEG which basically gives real time traffic updates. Lastly, it doubles up as a PMP as it plays MP3’s and videos, displays photos, and has gaming support.

All in all, it looks to be a very complete GPS by Thinkware, and it is set to be available on July 21 in the Korean market. It will be available in three models, a 2GB for 399,000 KRW (about $393 US) , a 4GB for 449,000 KRW (about $443 US), and a 8GB model for 499,000 KRW (about $492 US).

Vote for CGOTW for a chance to win $50

Friday, July 18th, 2008

We’re into our fifth coolest gadget of the week, some cool entries this week (along with what I reckon might be the worst entry yet), what’s coolest, you decide (as usual one voter/commenter will win a $50 Amazon voucher).

Panic Mouse Motorized Cat Toy

Cats like to sleep all day, but they need some exercise to stay in good health. The Panic Mouse has a bendy “fishing pole” with a toy attached to a string that moves around in random motions. The cat will have a blast trying to grab (and will also forget to scratch the couch). Check out the website for a video of the toy in action!

The full post can be found at S2999.com.

Wind up remote control

You TV remote always runs out of battery at the worst time but now you can just wind it up and not have to worry about it running out again. It’ll save you money on batteries and it’s much better for the environment.

The Lego Wall-E Trash Collecting Robot

Check out this amazing Lego Wall-E trash collecting robot from NXT Mindstorms hacker, BlueToothWiki.

This cool Lego Wall-E robot uses an ultrasonic sensor, it spots the trash and then verifies that it is trash, it then opens up and scoops the rubbish away.

Flee digital camera: When an Airplane isn’t on Hand

A cool gadget brings innovation to a conventional idea and that’s exactly what the Flee Digital Camera has done. This camera is designed to be thrown into the air where it will then take amazing aerial photos, something that until now you would have needed a small plane for. The aerial shots are then sent back to your mobile phone via Bluetooth, before the Flee returns to the ground ready for use again. Photography has never been more fun!

The full post can be found at Gaj-It.

Car Bras

OK, don’t be overly excited, this is a car ok? Did you know that cars also use bras? Funny isn’t it. Check them out!

The full post can be found at Car Tuning Central.

Thanks to all the sites for their submissions now over to you guys for voting (don’t forget to leave a comment with your reason for a chance to win $50):

LED Candelabra by Lux Et Deco

Friday, July 18th, 2008

If you’re tired of wandering the house looking for whatever it is that goes bump in the night and having your candle just blow out on you at a very inconvenient moment, you might pick up one of these instead.  Since all of us immediately go for the highly fickle candelabra to inspect a spooky noise in the night, one designer decided to create an update.  I know, some of you might think it’s more reasonable to just pick up a flashlight instead, but that’s just crazy talk.  Candelabras are just cooler.

These LED recreations come in either a color-changing form, where you can flip between all the bright shiny colors or a hand-embellished version.  The hand-embellished one actually features a lace pattern, to make wandering the house at night just a bit more spooky.  The color-changing type is being sold for €200  or $317 and the lace patterned one for €300  or $475.  Which is a bit much to pay for something to just appear as if you’re into modern technology while loving things that came along before such hi-tech things like the light bulb.

iPhone 3G Launch and Network Problems

Friday, July 18th, 2008

The long awaited iPhone 3G was released on Friday, July 11th. But what should have been a happy and joyous day for iPhone fans, ended up being an exercise in frustration for many.

AT&T’s insistence on trying to activate the phones in store taxed Apple’s authentication server (more info) and caused lines to move at a snail’s pace or sent buyers home with a phone only good for making emergency calls. During last year’s iPhone 1.0 launch Apple had everyone activate their own phone at home through iTunes.

Worse yet, AT&T outlets were allowed to sell far fewer phones that Apple Stores, forcing them to turn away customers who waited hours to get their hands on one.

Earlier this week, Apple also had problems with the relaunch of their data service now called MobileMe (it was previously called iTools and .Mac). The MobileMe service is designed to synchronize a user’s personal data across devices, including the iphone, but many users were denied access to their accounts this week, including Frank Accarrino.

“I’ve been trying to upload pictures from iPhoto to my .Mac website for the past few days but it’s offline. I can’t even get to my Mac mail. I bet Steve Jobs is pissed right now,” Frank told MethodShop.com.

Apple is usually known for flawless product launch events. Let’s hope Apple solves these network issues for next time. It’s estimated that 1 million iPhone 3G models were sold in the U.S. this weekend.

Texas wind power initiative to blow other states away

Friday, July 18th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Jul 18th 2008 at 6:16AM
Oh sure, Rock Port, Missouri managed to snag the title of being “100% wind powered,” but Texas’ new plan will make the Show Me state’s gusty initiatives look awfully weak. Officials at the Public Utility Commission recently okayed a plan to “build billions of dollars worth of new transmission lines to bring pollution-free energy from West Texas to urban areas.” The ginormous Lone Star state is already the nation’s leader in wind power, but when said plan is fully implemented (pending final approval), it’ll produce more wind energy than the next closest 14 states combined. Granted, customers will be paying a touch more ($4 per month is the current estimate) for all this clean energy, but pundits assert that the cost is minor when looking at just how much this will help out Mother Earth. Look for everything to go live in four to five years, barring any unforeseen setbacks.

[Thanks, Adam]

ExpressGate “instant-on” OS tested on ASUS Eee Box

Friday, July 18th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Jul 18th 2008 at 4:15AM
With a name like instant-on, it just has to be quick, right? Well, sort of. The cool cats over at Laptop paradoxically got to play with ASUS latest ExpressGate-equipped desktop, the Eee Box. Upon mashing the power button and clicking the stopwatch, it took 11 seconds to get to the main ExpressGate page, where users could select the browser, photo viewer, Pidgin chat or Skype button. Upon clicking browser, they found that it took 25 more seconds to push through and get Firefox up and running, putting the grand total for quick clickers at 35 seconds from startup to being on the web. Hit the read link for more coverage of the ExpressGate Olympics, complete with a video that takes 1 to 10 seconds to load depending on connection speed.

Sony’s PlayTV begins European rollout September 10th in UK

Friday, July 18th, 2008

by Thomas Ricker, posted Jul 18th 2008 at 4:34AM
So much for early 2008 or even July for that matter. Sony’s David Reeves now confirms that PlayTV — the €99 PS3 TV tuner / DVR add-on — will hit the UK on September 10th. The service will then march onto the continent before completing the European rollout in December — Australia and New Zealand get theirs in January or February. Notably, the service will in fact record television in the background without interrupting your regularly scheduled gaming regimen thanks to the recent 2.41 firmware PS3 update. Phew, for a moment we felt threatened by a lack of manufactured distractions.
