Tokyoflash’s new line of watches feature custom engraved wristbands

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Tokyoflash, a Japanese watch importer, has just announced they will be releasing a whole new bunch of unisex watches for their Nekura series. The watches all have that nice sleek metallic look and one is even inspired by a speedometer. The line itself is definitely for those that enjoy an almost industrial look added to their watch. Even while looking industrial, they still manage to make it chic. The fact that they are unisex is even better, it seems like thick heavy watches like this (which is my favorite kind of band) never come small enough for women.

This new release will include five new watches, which are custom engraved and the wristband made of brushed stainless steel. They can be purchased with either a black or clear strap. A couple of the other watches were inspired by a rotating disc effect from a combination lock and another a classic radio tuning dial. The watches will be sold for 8,900 YEN or $84 a piece. If you’re curious which watches are the new ones, they are the Cabriolet, Tumbler, Twilight, Transceiver and the Tundra.

Developers revolting on Gphone?

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Some developers are getting fed up.  Just a few months ago, they were the hope for higher level of happiness with our phone.  Now, they’ve become teenagers: depressed, full of angst, holding ill will toward “the man”.  In the developer forum, a petition has been presented that is gaining some steam with a reasonable list of demands: let us know WTF is going on.” I am paraphrasing here.

With this past weekends news of 10 million iphone apps (and I am personally addicted to sifting through the App Store in my free time - damn Apple), you’ve got to wonder how strong a temptation it is just to give up on Android’s promises and move on.  Surely Google is feeling some of this:

In my personal opinion it is not the right choice to keep developers in the dark. We, the developers, are the absolute base of success to the whole Android platform. The presentation with GoogleIO was a goodfirst step but for me it was nto enough.

I am not keen to find out I’ve painted myself into a corner over the summer when an SDK update finally comes out. I guess I’ll hang out at the beach more. Summer of no code…

i lost patience long ago. will keep coding/waiting untill the end of july. then ill eigther switch to the iphone (if sells are good) or windows mobile. i see absolutely no use in working with a barely finished SDK on an emulator without a piece of hardware in my hand. mobile phone development is no fun if you cant test it MOBILE.

Then we have a supposed quote from Google that says they are considering a branded mobile phone: the Gphone lives!!!  Doubt it.

Orbit Professional Outdoor Mist Cooling System

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Do you love to entertain friends and family often? If you are like me, you probably feel like you are going to melt outside during the hot summer evenings. Unfortunately, for a lot of people out there with the same aversion to heat like me, it just doesn’t seem like much fun to get out there and slave over a hot grill or even spend time on the back patio. This professional quality mist cooling system will turn your back patio into a nice place to go on those scorching hot days. The mister appears to be extremely easy to setup. It is just a matter of snapping everything together, putting the line where you want it, and connecting a water hose to it. The gadget requires no power and without any expansion will cover a 100 square foot area.

Gimme!

Price: $47.99

Water-powered clock is here to save the environment

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted Jul 15th 2008 at 6:03AM
If you’re all about the environment, you probably have a hybrid car, monitor your power use, and recycle your detritus. But if you still have a power-guzzling alarm clock that plugs into the wall, for shame, you glutton! Fear not, though — the eco-friendly, water-powered Bedol Wall Wave Clock is here to save the day. Powered by electrodes immersed in water that extract energy from compound particles, this thirsty clock won’t be available until Augst 15, 2008. To make things less painful, though, it will only run you $19.00 when it comes to save us all.

Intel unleashes the Centrino 2 — finally

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted Jul 14th 2008 at 11:05PMJust when we were about to forget about you, Centrino 2, here you come with your efficient bad self. Intel finally announced the new 802.11 Wi-Fi, integrated graphics-packing mobile platform after delays related to the wireless tech. Centrino 2 will come in two varieties: one for consumers and the vPro platform for the briefcase crew. The chipset can be configured for gamers, using a discrete graphics chip rather than the integrated set, if that’s your thing. Of most import (or amusement) is Intel’s HUGI (Hurry Up and Get Idle), which it says is the tech behind the Centrino 2’s uber-efficiency — faster speeds mean less time spent doing stuff, of course. It notes that the tech allows for an entire Blu-Ray disc to be played back for two hours on one battery charge. Finally, Intel promises a WiMax version this fall, so if you have the patience, you may want to wait for that barring further delays.

Hello Kitty 1seg portable TV lacks effort, cuteness

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

by Nilay Patel, posted Jul 14th 2008 at 8:08PM
Word on the street is that Sanrio was looking for new Hello Kitty designers on the West Coast earlier last week, and if this sad little 1seg portable TV is any indication, we can see why the company’s in search of fresh talent. Seriously, this is the least cute Hello Kitty gadget we’ve seen in a while, and we’re basically suckers for the lil’ imp. Japan-only, and your ¥21,000 ($197) doesn’t get you anything special on the inside, either, just a 2.4-inch QVGA screen and built-in stereo speakers with a 4.5-hour battery life. Come on, Kitty — make us love you again.

If you’re gong to San Francisco, be sure to use Smart Parking

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

I tell you, there is nothing I hate more than driving in the big city.  Assuming you can get through the traffic, none of the usual rules seem to apply.  Don’t even get me started on trying to find a parking space.

Especially in San Francisco, a city full of hills so steep that they’re practically cliffs.  Fortunately, the Bay City is doing something about their parking problem by implementing “smart spots”.  These are spots that are fitted with sensors that can be detected through a city-wide Wi-Fi network.

All a user has to do is look on their Wi-Fi enabled smartphone or find a dynamic street sign display, and he or she is on their way to a parking place.  That is, unless someone else takes the space first.

San Francisco is planning on spending 23 million on this program that will turn 6,000 ordinary spaces into these smart spots.

Not only will these smart spots be detectable via Wi-Fi, but they will accept payments via cellular phone too.  No more having to run back to the feed the meter.  This program in San Francisco is not the first parking meter program to accept payments via cell phone, as Niagara Falls and Vancouver have adopted similar programs in 2007.

Hopefully, there will be smart spots like this implemented in every major metropolitan area.
