Kodak intros the C913, M1073 IS and M1063 cheapcams

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

We’re not certain why Kodak is trickling out these middle-of-the-road digicams instead of announcing them all at once, but here we are. Joining the M1093 IS are the new M1073 IS (pictured) and M1063, while the C813 get a new friend in the C913. As you’d expect, almost nothing about these is all that spectacular: the $179 M1063 and M1073 IS are both 10 megapixel units with ISO1000 sensitivity and face detection, while the $120 C913 is a 9.2 megapixel unit with a 2.4-inch display and digital image stabilization. Expect to see these all in October, and check out the C913 after the break.

Belt Clip Duct Tape Dispensor

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Duct tape is really an amazing thing. It’s capable of doing, creating, or fixing just about anything. Don’t believe me? Ask all the ladies out there with duct tape engagement rings, or all of the business men wearing duct tape suits. They’ll tell you how it is.

A man must always have some duct tape at hand. People! Listen to me! Duct tape is a miracle of innovation. There’s even books published about the magic you can create with the household object. That’s why this Duct Tape Dispensing Belt Clip is so damn cool.

This heavy-duty dispenser is sure to save as many projects you have that are in need of a good fixing. The Tape Wrangler fits any standard role of tape, you’ll always have a role of duct tape at hand for all of your taping needs.

Amazon is selling the Tape Wrangler for $18, quite a steal for the duct tape extraordinaire. The Tape Wrangler works one handed, right from the belt, or can be easily detached for more of an on-hand approach. So lets fix some of those leaky pipes, with duct tape of course.

Book Holder Pillow: The non-awkward way to read in bed

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Avid readers like me have a real problem when it comes to shoving in a few chapters before rolling over to sleep. The real problem is that there is just not to many ways to get comfortable when you’re forced to hold your arms up above your body. Your arms start getting tired before your brain wants to give up.

But for the voracious consumer of literature, there is nothing that can hold us back from our most beloved hobby. Inspired from the design of The Great Pyramids, the helpful Peeramid is a gadget made for us bed readers.

The Peeramid is a pillow book holder with a unique design. Its pyramid shape props up your reading material without the need of a heavy plastic gadget. The integrated bookmark ensures that you never lose your spot, even if you close your book a bit to early.

The Peeramid is offered in a wide selection of color and materials. For $33, you can enjoy the comfort of your bed even when reading. Just prop a pillow behind your back, open the pages, and let your imagination do the rest.

Apple lets flood gates open: more iPhone App developers accepted

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Gadgetell exclusive: last night I was contacted by a couple of developers, each shut out of the beta program.  Both, I might add, have fantastic application ideas but Apple hadn’t even looked at thier app until yesterday.  Or so it seemed.

Both developers got notification they were accepted into the program.  Word is a couple of weeks and wham, bam, boom - they are in the App Store.

As I’ve said before, I found the launch of the App Store a little underwhelming but do believe it will snowball into some amazing Apps for us to enjoy.  How about you, got an app you can’t live without now?

I also got to thinking this morning, Apple just created a way for them to add productivity to current applications while getting us to pay for them.  Things like a video camera, MMS, copy and paste.  Things that we all think should just be in there, Apple can now collect revenue for.  Nice.  Well, for them anyway.

Epilog Zing, your personal laser engraver

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

by Joshua Topolsky, posted Jul 12th 2008 at 12:28PM
Do you have $8000 to blow? Have you been dying to open a laser tattoo parlor? Well guess what? It’s your lucky day. The folks at Epilog would like you to meet the Zing, a $7,995 laser etcher / printer that can not only scar you for life, but can also leave a personalized stamp of your choosing on anything that you can fit into it. If you’ve seen engraved iPods, Zunes, or MacBooks, you get the idea of what this device can do. The Zing is made to tackle almost any material, be it wood, plastic, leather, glass, or various metals (of course), though we’re fairly certain the company doesn’t condone or recommend taking this baby to your precious, supple skin. Check out a video of it doing what it does best on an iphone after the break.

iPhone 3G — more of the saga

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Don’t worry, this quest has a happy ending, with the new 3G iphone not only in hand but activated. As anyone with an iPhone noticed, the Apple servers crashed from all the new customers trying to activate their new phones and leaving old iPhone users in limbo, frozen trying to download the 2.0 upgrade which adds great new features and services to older versions of the iPhone (more on that later from Mia.) Add to that over 500 new apps and it’s like you’ve got a new phone. (Pictured below, the new tap-and-tilt game, Super Monkey Ball.)

A tech fiend friend of mine, Kevin, in Manhattan Beach, CA. tell this story:

I got to the AT&T store at 5:30, thinking I would be first in line. Boy was I wrong. I was 30th in line. By the time the store opened, I would guess there were about 150 . . . wrapped around the corner and beyond! I got a quote from the person at the front of the line. His name was Justin Levin. He got there the night before at 9 p.m.!! He waited in his car until he saw people coming and then got in line which was about 3 a.m. His favorite application was the AIM, so he could “keep in touch.” He wanted to upgrade because of the “new features and it’s about time!” His favorite function is the 3G aspect for speed. The traffic didn’t seem to be affected besides the normal morning traffic . . . but it was very crowded. I found out that the AT&T store sold out at 10 o’clock, about an hour after I got mine.

With activation almost impossible, Kevin waited to this morning to plug into iTunes, and most original iPhone owners have been able to download the new software.

AT&T is reporting this morning that they have sold out of the iPhones at most of it’s 2,000 retail stores in the US, but they are taking orders for the devices.

And the best part of the story? Kevin bought two new iPhones.

Ion’s $300 “Drum Rocker” premium drum kit for Rock Band unveiled

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

by Paul Miller, posted Jul 12th 2008 at 3:04PM
Well, that was quick. We mentioned Ion’s fancy drum kit yesterday, which will be released around when Rock Band 2 ships, but works with both Rock Band games, and now we’ve got a price and a press shot of the Drum Rocker. The $300 set has high-durability pads, which are supposed to play quiet and will register the velocity of your hits, but the real win is the re-configurability of the whole set — much like a for-realises electronic drum kit. We’re also really digging the metal-reinforced kick pedal, which seems a major improvement over the junky, difficult pedal packaged with the original game. Only $300? We’ll take two.

Will It Blend? iPhone 3G edition

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

by Paul Miller, posted Jul 12th 2008 at 1:45PM
No, really, will it? We’re on pins and needles here. Sure, the original blended up fine, but with all the G’s in this thing, perhaps not even the mighty Blendtec can reduce it to rubble. Video is after the break. Oh, and for extra bonus points, check out the fake Belgian edition, also after the break. Yeah, we said Belgian.
