JVC rolls out NX-PN7 dual iPod docking station

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

by Donald Melanson, posted Jun 23rd 2008 at 2:04PM
JVC was showing off its NX-PN7 dual ipod dock way back at a CES at the beginning of this year, but it looks like it’s just now gotten its act together and finally pushed the thing out the door. It doesn’t seem like much has changed in the ensuing months, however, with the dock still boasting the same ability to not only charge two iPods (or iPhones) at the same time, but playback each one through the unit’s speakers or have each one go off at two separate times with the tune of your choice. Otherwise, you can rest assured that you’ll be getting the usual FM tuner, as well as a standard analog audio input for your non-Apple audio devices and a video output for some larger screen viewing of your iPod’s contents. If that sounds like just the dock you’ve been waiting for, you can snag one now for $150.

[Thanks, T.I.]

Dig Dug Pillows spark dreams of retro gaming paradise

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Jun 23rd 2008 at 9:16AM
We’ve seen folks lay their noggins on some pretty interesting pillows, but these critters just stand out like no other. Featuring Dig Dug himself along with a menacing Pooka, these homegrown cushions were created by manicmaiden for his / her brother’s birthday. We know what you’re thinking, but it doesn’t seem as if this particularly thoughtful individual is accepting applications for adoptions.

Japan getting little pig earbuds

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Alright, so everyone has their bizarre tendencies, mine happens to be that I find pigs adorable. I don’t mean in the way that someone who has never seen a real pig in their life buys cute little pig accessories. No, I mean both real and fake, I fully admit that it is both strange and completely ridiculous. That being said, I am of course a sucker for these cute little novelty earbuds. Being a bit of a gadget geek, I of course take into consideration that likely they don’t have the greatest sound quality.

However, that being said, it is taking a great amount of restraint on my part to keep that in mind and not pick them up purely because they are cute. It does slow me down a bit at least that this isn’t a US product. The cute little earbuds come in pink, black and even white. The coolest being the black if you ask me. Although, I wouldn’t, mostly because I wouldn’t ask a person that is so off their rocker that they like pig earbuds. The earbuds are being sold for about $12.

Centro gets Google Map’d up with My Location; also unlocked

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Palm announced this afternoon that the Centro will be able to add Google Maps with My Location as early as tomorrow.  The maker also announced an unlocked version of the Centro in white with grey

Another phone with Google Maps for location and driving directions.  Iv’e said it before, but anyone else feel like something else is coming?  Google has to have given this some thought?  Don’t get me wrong, Google Maps is fun but navigation is missing.  Enough of my blather.

My Location on the Centro will allow users to find themselves with fewer keystrokes and less effort.  The My Location is in addition to all the great things Google Maps brings: traffic, aerial shots and driving directions.  Ok, I can’t take it.  Just driving directions?  Come on Google.  You know where we are.  You’ve got the directions.  How much harder is it to put this together???  Ok, I am over it now.  This is a cool addition for the plethora of Centro users out there (the phone is really cute).  You can download as of tomorrow from here.

The unlocked phone is $229 and retains the same dimensions.  You can find it for sale online here.

Unichal dixau concept dictionary

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Dictionaries come in two formats these days - digital and in a traditional book form. Unichal of Korea has come up with a new concept known as ‘dixau’, featuring an integrated English dictionary within which displays its content on the computer monitor complete with an authentic native speaker voice to read out the word you click the dixau on. The dixau supposedly supports up to 17 dictionaries by hooking it up to the Internet. It will retail for less than a Benjamin, making it a great purchase for folks who are trying to pick up the English language without thumbing through dust-laden dictionaries.

The KISS Plasma Light Sculpted Head is a bit terrifying

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Gene Simmons always manages to crack me up, if he can find a way, he will slap his name on anything. Frankly, if he can sell KISS cologne then he can sell anything, even this bizarre looking light. I had no idea how bad he was about it until I managed to catch an interview on TV where he brought up his obsession with marketing anything and everything KISS. I wouldn’t be all that surprised if he managed to sell KISS themed toilet paper. Frankly, KISS fans are eager enough that he definitely has the perfect audience to pitch his weird products to.

This excessively creepy sculpture features a tongue decked out in LED lights as well as fiber optics. The site selling this strange product assures that the blood pouring from his mouth is indeed fake. I know many of you readers might have been highly concerned there. That is if you were able to look away from the 8” tongue long enough to even notice there was blood around the mouth. fittingly this product is being sold on Things You Never Knew Existed, for $59.98.

Pool Concept PC

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

I just learned that the Napkin PC concept that we reported on six months ago has won a Next-Gen PC Design competition. On a related note, I found this Next-Gen PC concept, and I thought it was just as practical, especially for summer.

The Pool PC, aka PC of the Swim-Rings, is a waterproof computer that has a small place so you can attach a swim ring. Then all you need to do is lay back in the ring, let your body float, and you are free to check email, surf the web, or anything else you want to do on your computer.

It has many features including a GPRS receiver, Bluetooth wireless solutions, finger-touch input, a solar power driven processor, water-cooling system, as well as a magnetic charging interface. I believe that the swim ring holder can also house some speakers for non-amphibian work.

So far, this is a concept, but I don’t see why it shouldn’t be put on the market. After all, I have been on vacation several times and have taken my computer with me to do some work while away. There are times when I’ve wanted to take my PC into the pool with me and get my work done there.

Hopefully, the computer has an anti-glare screen for the sunshine.

Electroluminescent Suits Keep Things Glowing

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

I don’t know about you, but I look at this picture to the left and can’t help but think of the 1982 geek film Tron. I am guessing that a lot of the non-geeks are probably thinking that these are the electroluminescent (EL) suits worn by Daft Punk at the Grammys when they performed with Kanye West.

Even though I can’t think of an occasion to wear it, I can’t help but wonder where you get an outfit like this. As it turns out, it doesn’t look like these suits are available on the market any time soon by any fashion designer that I know.

However, there is an in-depth tutorial available on a site known as Instrutables that tells the ordinary person how to assemble one of these electroluminescent suits. This site also has the instructions for making many other technological things.

I’m not certain how much of an electronics expert that you have to be to build one of these EL suits, but it doesn’t look like a quickie project. Not only does it look complicated, but it could be pretty shocking if things turned out wrong.

In short, make the suit, wear the suit, but don’t walk out in the rain.

iPhone gets suite of applications

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

The iPhone is definitely one of the more popular cell phones in the world at this point in time, at least in the mid-range group and above. After all, with the impending release of the 3G iphone, you can bet your bottom dollar (or whatever denomination) that come July 11th, there will be a frenzy for this new handset, never mind the blood-sucking 2-year contract attached with it in certain places. With a phone this magical, surely there must be something more than the looks and ease-of-use that drives it? I believe that software on the iPhone does play a role in its huge popularity, and having said that, I would like to draw your attention to iPhoneApps - a ground-breaking, unique new software application product that features a generous choice of 10 of the most popular and commonly used PC applications that run non your iPhone. Sounds perfect for the casual computer user who dreads carrying around a laptop just to type a short letter on Microsoft Word.

The main point of the iPhone Apps Bundle would be to transform this little handset into a mini-computer which functions as a cell phone as well, and it retails for a mere $24.95, making it a really attractive purchase. After all, with the 3G iPhone’s release, it will be a boon considering you can virtually access the Internet anytime, anywhere, using it to full effect with the bundle of applications that come along in the suite itself. After all, if all you do are casual word processing and simple spreadsheets, surely this is a much better alternative compared to lugging around a notebook? Also, you don’t have to keep a lookout on your newly purchased Eee PC from being stolen despite it being small and light compared to a regular notebook.
