Samsung Instinct hands-on

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

by Chris Ziegler, posted Jun 7th 2008 at 4:36PM
We hate gratuitous iPhone comparisons as much as the next guy, but let’s be straight with each other here: Sprint has its sights squarely focused on Cupertino’s darling with the Instinct. From beginning to end, the carrier has pulled no punches about the model’s target audience and its competition. Make no mistake, though, the Instinct is no iphone ripoff or clone — it’s distinctly its own beast that just happens to share a form factor and a few common UI paradigms, and depending on your perspective and the specific feature you happen to be using, that can be a good or a bad thing. So is it better than a chocolate cupcake with sprinkles? Head on over to Engadget Mobile for the full rundown!

Christian Dior / ModeLabs pop out another absurdly overpriced handset

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Jun 7th 2008 at 2:39PM
If Christian Dior’s $5,000 handset just wasn’t rich enough for your blood, hopefully the crocodile skinned, Swarovski-covered iteration will put a sizable enough hole in your bank account to make you feel sufficiently important. Reportedly dubbed Lady Dior, the ModeLabs-created mobile features a 2.6-inch QVGA display, 2-megapixel camera, 640 Swarovski stones and absolutely nothing really worth the price tag. Speaking of which, said sticker is right around €18,000 ($28,360). Laughable, no?

Nature On Display: When The Earth Is Endangered

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Global warming, nuclear apocalypse, urban sprawl. Nature is on trial and it’s slowly losing the fight. We’ve still got a lot of natural scenery intact, but everyday, beautiful forests and mountain settings are put at risk by the move of human expansion. Nature might one day, become an endangered species.

So what will humans do to retain a piece of out natural past? How far will we go to preserver the feeling we get when we gaze upon a beautiful waterfall or a series of gorgeous trees. Finnish photographer Ilkka Halso’s photographic series ‘The Museum of Nature’ delves into a future which might put nature on the stand as a rare sight.

The Museum of Nature visually documents the possible future of viewing nature. Displaying a series of man-made structures that enclose nature, grasping on to the last hope for humans to view the Earth’s past. These structures would make nature a form of theater, complete with a seated audience.

We suppose that a future such as this is what drives the green activists to continue their fight in saving the spectacle of nature. The Museum of Nature could possibly be a peek into a grim future for nature. The important thing is, that there are at least people who are willing to preserve nature for the viewing of others.

Creative’s Vado Pocket Video Cam gets reviewed

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Jun 7th 2008 at 10:23AM
With the Flip Mino just hitting the scenes (and skyrocketing up Amazon’s sales charts), there’s no doubt that Creative’s fighting an uphill battle with the Vado Pocket Video Cam. Designed to compete in the YouTube-friendly pocket camcorder sector, this critter was actually said to be built a bit studier than the Flip and pack a more luscious display to boot. Reviewers also found the audio quality to be (expectedly) subpar, and while video quality was decent for a sub-$100 device, the compression monster managed to make ho hum results downright ugly when clips were uploaded to the ‘Tube. Still, for the market this one’s aimed at (read: a market without videophiles), it’s not a half bad addition to the cargo pocket arsenal — just don’t go expecting the world and you’ll be fine.
