AMC i-T15 is Wet and WiFi-ed

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

It appears that a water resistant feature, such as the one found on the Ubanana Ucan mp3 player, are going to be the new standard for all Portable Media Players (PMPs). I think AMC is definitely trying to surf the wave of the future with the i-T15, a water-resistant WiFi Wireless TV.

The i-T15 is apparently water resistant enough for a strong jet of water. I found this description odd, because normally water-resistance is given in a measurement of depth. Like “up to three meters” for example.

Yet the water resistant feature isn’t the i-T15’s biggest selling point. Even without adding water, the i-T15 has video on demand and broadcasting features with a 15 inch screen. It has a resolution of 1200 x 800 Pixels, and a contrast ratio of 600:1.

It also has wireless 802.11a WiFi configuration, and it supports multiple audio and video inputs. Also available is an ATSC/NTSC/Pal tuner, a DVBT/SECAM/PAL, as well as an IR blaster.

As for power, there is approximately 2.5 hours of nonstop viewing on a single Lithium Polymer battery. The TV and included remote are water and dust resistant.

Right now, the AMC i-T15 is not available yet, but it should be in a few months. Unfortunately, there is no word on a price.

iChime Doorbell Plays MP3s Instead Of Ding Dong

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

We have our ipod to help us ignore our surroundings by deafening our senses with rock and (sometimes Rick) Roll, but what about a way for us to be alerted to someone entering our surroundings with the power of music?

The iChime is a customizable doorbell which can hold up to 50 of your favorite songs that can be selected as your doorbell chime of the day. The iChime also comes with 6 custom chimes built right in which can be changed at any time.

Thanks to an awesome auxiliary speaker attachment which can be mounted outside of your door, the next Johovah’s Witness to come a-ringin’ could be greeted with a song that shows just how welcome they are, such as Slayer’s “Angel Of Death” or even a voice recording of yourself telling them to scram.

The iChime works with both lighted and unlighted doorbell circuitry and is a quick 2-wire installation. You can grab your own for $90 and the auxiliary speaker for an additional $25. After that, you’re on your way to transferring songs from either your iPod or computer right to your doorstep.

Lifetime service subscriptions back at TiVo

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

In an effort to lure more customers, TiVo has brought back its Lifetime Service offer for good. TiVo’s service offer used to be limited, but customer feedback has prompted the company to extend its service and make it a permanent offering. Current DVR subscriptions run at $12.95 a month or $129 a year; therefore, it would take about 2.5 to 3-years before you would really benefit from the $399 Lifetime Service fee.  Something else to keep in mind is that the Lifetime Service is box-specific, which means the you will be required to keep the box that you sign up with in use. The service is essentially the lifetime of the box and not your lifetime, so if you are they type to upgrade often this may not be the best option for you.
