StandPouch eliminates the need for a tripod

Monday, May 12th, 2008

I can bet that when most of you carry around your camera, you don’t bother to bring along a tripod. Unless you’re a professional photographer that’s heading to a shoot, you’ll find that the benefits of a stable surface far outweigh the bulk of such a device. This StandPouch however, will ensure that you always have a tripod for your point-and-shoot camera.

Rather than just being a simple little tripod that you carry around with you, this product also acts as a protective case for your camera. Sure, it’s not going to work nearly as well as a large tripod, but it give you something adjustable to set it on. Best of all, it will only set you back $13.

Pioneer announces new AVIC-T10 PNS

Monday, May 12th, 2008

The new Pioneer AVIC-T10 comes loaded with many nice features, unfortunately, it is set to release only in Japan for the time being. The AVIC-T10 comes with a 5.8-inch VGA touch screen, 4GB of internal memory, Bluetooth capability for hands free calling, and has HSDPA support. To use that, you have to connect your device through your phone. Additionally, it comes with a TV 1Seg tuner, has decent format support including WMA, MP3, and AAC. It also comes with many useful services including Smart Loop Traffic Congestion Information, Parking Availability Information, Gasoline Price Information, and PinPoint Weather reports. My guess is that the first service, the Smart Loop Traffic Congestion Information provides traffic updates, the Parking Space service lets you know where there are available parking spots (that’s pretty cool), the Gasoline service lets you know where the cheapest gas in the area is, and the PinPoint service updates you on the weather. The last service is called the Rendez-Vous service, which basically chooses a convenient meeting place if you want to meet with your friend. It finds out that convenient place by searching through emails sent and received by the same person. All in all, it comes with some pretty nice and unique services. No word on exact pricing at this time, but hopefully it remains relatively inexpensive.

Pink is Strength - OtterBox iPhone case

Monday, May 12th, 2008

I already own the original black OtterBox rugged Defender case for my iphone because it provides drop, shock and bump protection, but I’ve never been crazy about the way it looks. Now Otterbox is offering the case - plus an ipod Nano 3rd Generation number - in pink to benefit the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. 10 % of the purchase price will be donated to the Cancer Crusade “to support access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer, with a focus on the medically underserved.”

What’s to Love:
- There are 3 layers of protection; a clear Polycarbonate sheet with high performance hard coating that offers chemical and abrasion protection.
- Hi-impact Polycarbonate skeleton.
- Silicone skin to absorb bump and shock. (Though the company specifies that these are not water-proof, my experience indicates they’re water resistant.)
- All ports remain accessible through convenient Silicone plugs so you can sync and charge your iPhone right through the case.
- Included with the case is a holster style belt clip, for those who swing that way.

It’s PINK!

And best of all, part of the proceeds go to support the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. There, I made it a guilt-free purchase. $49.95 at OtterBox.

Bladez 3D Helicopter

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Remote controlled toys on CG are a-plenty, but this time round we have something which requires a wee bit more skill to fly compared to your regular RC helicopters, as it boasts a higher degree of precision and control. Behold, the Bladez 3D Helicopter! Looks like the perfect toy to irritate your pet with, chasing it around the home. Check out a description of the device right after the jump.

If you’ve had a wild time flying our indoor helicopters (and you really should have) then it’s time to step-up to the big time with Bladez 3D, our annoyingly spelt, but immensely enjoyable, indoor and outdoor monster RC Helicopter. It’s tough, it’s cool, it’s 3 channel and even has an intelligent RC system that avoids interference with other RC users - but won’t stop them pestering you to have a go. A twelve minute charge will give you about eight minutes of flying time, and it’s best suited for intermediate to advanced heli flyers. Unlike our lighter and simpler indoor models it has more precision and control, which of course requires more flying skill, but ensures a whole heap more fun. We got it up and running straight from the box, and despite not being ace heli flyers ourselves, managed to zip it around the office without sending anyone to casualty. However, it’s a pretty powerful beast, so if you’re flying it indoors make sure you have a fair amount of space, and as few household pets as possible.

You will be able to get up and flying for £49.99. I’d make sure that all ceiling fans are turned off first if I plan to fly this thing indoors. I think bachelor pads would welcome it more than a regular household…after all Mother’s Day is just over so it would best not irk the missus so soon, eh?

Strapless One Touch Heart Rate Watch

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Are you a gym rat who needs to know your exact heart rate while performing your runs on the treadmill? Granted, some of the more advanced treadmills will be able to give you a reading of your current heart rate, but those aren’t exactly the most accurate in the world. The Strapless One Touch Heart Rate Watch, IMHO, would do a much better job.

Unlike typical heart rate monitors that require uncomfortable chest straps, this heart rate device is as unobtrusive as a standard wrist watch and provides an EKG accurate reading to 1 beat-per-minute after only three beats. A signal beeps twice when your heart rate exceeds or falls below your optimal beats-per-minute target zone, informing you when to increase or decrease workout rate. Chronograph and countdown timer features allow you to set time benchmarks, and the calorie counter calculates caloric energy output based on your heart rate. Includes calendar, hourly chime, alarm, and current time features, displayed on any easy-to-read backlit LCD.

Each $69.95 purchase comes with a battery, and you will be able to choose from Mens or Womens designs.

Flickr users rejoice as Photoshop Express adds support

Monday, May 12th, 2008

The recently released Photoshop Express, which is a free web-based photo editor has just added support for Flickr. With the newly added support users can now take images from their Flickr account, edit them in Photoshop Express and place the hopefully nicer images back into their Flickr photo stream for everyone to enjoy. If you are new to Photoshop Express, you can check out the recent review from our own Debbie Cook.

Plextor offers up StorX PX-NAS500L / PX-NAS1000L NAS drives

Monday, May 12th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted May 10th 2008 at 5:33PM
It’s been a hot minute since we’ve seen any fresh new kit from Plextor, but the firm has just rolled out a new pair of NAS drives for those on the hunt for — what else? — networked storage. The StorX PX-NAS500L / PX-NAS1000L drives offer up 500GB and 1TB of capacity, respectively, and each unit includes a gigabit Ethernet port, one-touch USB back-up button and the ability to grow thanks to a pair of USB 2.0 sockets. Beyond that, you won’t find much else special about the new duo, and your guess is as good as ours on pricing / availability.

Apple Store’s US and UK sites run dry of iPhones, 3G imminent?

Monday, May 12th, 2008

by Chris Ziegler, posted May 10th 2008 at 11:36AM
If we saw the typical “Ships in 1-2 weeks” here or whatever, we wouldn’t be sounding an alarm, but something is going on here. Both Apple’s US and UK online stores are joining the O2 choir and are now reporting the iphone as “currently unavailable” — no 8GB, no 16GB, no nothing. It seems that Apple either significantly underestimated demand for the 2.5G models ahead of the 3G release that’s still a few weeks (or months) down the road, or the 3G model is a whole heck of a lot closer than we could’ve imagined. Is anyone suddenly having a nasty case of “I only want what I can’t have” syndrome and regretting that they didn’t order one of these bad boys a day or two ago?

Cowon’s D2 PMP now available in 16GB form

Monday, May 12th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted May 9th 2008 at 11:08PM
As lovely as the D2 is, we’ve always had a secret wish for it to offer up a bit more internal capacity. Apparently the higher-ups at Cowon have heard our inner cries, as a 16GB edition of the player is now available through JetMall. Aside from being more capacious, nothing else has changed, but if this was just the thing to push you over the edge, you can hand over your $240 right now and join the club.

Cup eliminates the need for a stirring spoon

Monday, May 12th, 2008

I’ve never been much of a drinker, so the strongest thing you’ll usually find me drinking ins Mountain Dew. I don’t drink fancy coffees or teas, so I don’t normally have issues with spoons. However, if you’re wanting to eliminate this pesky utensil from your drinking routine, this cup would be the perfect way to do just that.

This unique cup uses a floating mechanism, which is supported by a ceramic ball that rests at the base. When you shake it, the ball and float move about to mix up your drink. When you go to take a sip, you’ll find both objects resting gently out of the way at the bottom of the cup. Unfortunately this only appears to be a concept device.
