While it is official, T-Mobile has activated their 3G service, but as expected from the rumor train, so far it is limited to just New York City. The good news is that the now faster service appears, based on user reports to be for both voice and data. Some are reporting speeds up to 300Kbps or more, a nice improvement coming from EDGE which is 2G and offers an average of 200Kbps.

T-Mobile has promised that the 3G service would be rolled out by this summer, but is expected to hit other major cities before the full roll-out. Hey at least some of T-Mobile’s users can now take full advantage of these 3G-capable handsets that they have been buying. Here’s hoping for a smooth, and quick roll-out.
