LeaveMeAloneBox perpetually closes itself, should win some kind of award

Friday, April 25th, 2008

by Darren Murph, posted Apr 24th 2008 at 10:56AM
We can’t say for certain that this is the most pointlessly sophisticated contraption we’ve ever seen built, but regardless of all that, we dare anyone to deny its greatness. In essence, the LeaveMeAloneBox does nothing more than turn itself off after a pestiferous human flips it on — time, and time, and time again. Really, the beauty of this thing can only truly be seen in video, so click on through for what’s likely to be the best 29 seconds of your day.

The Digital Photo Watch

Friday, April 25th, 2008

In case you want to keep the photosof your loved ones always near you, the best way is to buy a watch that works as a digital album, also known as a digital photo watch.

Brookstone has added this new kind of watch to their catalog, that has a memory to hold 60 photos, and 2 viewing modes: slideshow, or one by one. The USB connection has 2 purposes: to rechargeable the watch (which takes 8 hours for a full charge) and to transfer content from/to the watch.

Other features include the display of time in analog and digital, as well as showing the current day and date.

Cable companies drop Pivot, break up with Sprint Nextel

Friday, April 25th, 2008

by Nilay Patel, posted Apr 23rd 2008 at 6:23PMWow, it looks like someone was listening when we said that Pivot wasn’t going anywhere just an hour ago — Comcast, Time Warner (Engadget’s parent company) and Cox have all confirmed to the AP that they’ve backed out of the quad-play partnership, leaving Sprint alone to awkwardly hang out with Advance / Newhouse, which declined to comment. That must be a fun party. Of course, this also means both of the partnerships Sprint and Big Cable got into have now failed, but that doesn’t mean the competition in the space is over: both Time Warner and Cox say wireless is still in the cards for their companies, but Pivot was just too complicated a venture. Comcast hasn’t said anything yet, but promised a comment tomorrow sometime between 7AM and 11PM.

Measure more accurately with the Scale Spoon

Friday, April 25th, 2008

I don’t do a lot of cooking in the kitchen, mostly because I don’t have the patience and I’m just too picky of an eater. Most of the things I like can be made by using the microwave or boiling water, so I stick to what I like. However, if you do enjoy the culinary arts, you might be interested in this handy little measuring device.

When you need to measure very small amounts, it can be rather difficult at times. Thanks to this cool Spoon Scale you’ll be able to weigh out your ingredients with ease. It is exact to within 1/10 of a gram. It witches between grams and ounces, depending on your need and has the keen ability to measure additional ingredients as you add them.

The Spoon Scale isn’t much larger than your average spoon, and will only set you back $37.

»» Coolest Gadgets has a new look !!

Friday, April 25th, 2008

It’s taken a lot of blood, sweat and tears (okay maybe not blood) but we finally have a new look and layout for Coolest Gadgets. This has been in procrastinated development for the best part of a year so I’m delighted it’s finally live.

If you are reading this via our feed please come on over and check it out, all opinions are very welcome.

The main changes we’ve made are:

  • We’ve removed some of the adverts that we thought were too in your face
  • At the bottom of all posts there is now an option to “Mail to a friend”
  • The layout of individual posts has been radically neatened
  • Navigation moved from the left to the right

If you have any suggestions on either the look or just in general please let us know.

Thanks for reading.
