Dell Sales Call taken at the Panama Call Center

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Sometimes I run across something that absolutely makes me laugh out loud. The clip below from Ebaumsworld did the trick this morning where a Dell Sales Guy simply “can’t believable” that he’s losing a sale because a computer does not include speakers in the price of a $999 computer:

If you’re at work, you may want to use headphones as a couple of explicits fly towards the end (only 2-3 words so it’s PG-13). By the way, the hilarity really starts around the 5:20 mark.

Ultra SpaceStation Flash Drive Hub

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

USB Flash Drives are very handy when wanting to cart information around. The problem many face is keeping things in order. The SpaceStation is built by a company named Ultra and has 6 USB flash drive slots on the back of it. The SpaceStation is credit card sized and acts as a USB hub where 6 of their drives connect in to it. Each drive can store 2GB of data making a total of 12GB of storage on the SpaceStation being made available.

Unfortunately the drives do not show up as one large drive, but rather, just show up as six individual drives. So you do not forget what is on each drive, a bunch of labels have been provided to label up the contents such as a “music” drive, “video” drive etc…

The 12GB version costs $89.99 with a cheaper 6GB version running at $59.99.

Picto DigiArt i90 comes with, seems to do everything, really

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Its name says Picto, DigiArt, and i90. The company used three different terms to identify this new gadget, and yet none of these is camera, digicam, or videocam. That’s because this new do-it-all can’t really fit into any one of those categories, seeing as how many different features it packs under the hood. It’s got an mp3 player, a voice recorder, a 30fps MPEG-4 video recorder, a 1GB SD memory card included in the retail package, and it’s a 7-megapixel camera with face detection and anti-shake technology. Currently selling for ₩179,000 (or about $185) in Korea, this is about as all-encompassing as a point-and-shoot digital camera can get. Although there haven’t been any details about when, or if ever it will be available in the US, we know one thing’s for sure: if the makers of this gadget were taught only three things during their childhood, these are the following: convergence, convergence, and convergence! Of course while it seems to do just about everything, we are not sure how well it will actually handle each of those tasks.

Blu-ray on Xbox 360? Microsoft hasn’t heard about it

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Posted Mar 12th 2008 11:09PM by Richard Lawler
Filed under: Gaming, HDTV, Home EntertainmentThose hot/cold “Blu-ray coming to Xbox 360″ rumors just cooled off a bit again, with product manager Aaron Greenberg telling Reuters “Xbox is not currently in talks with Sony or the Blu-ray Association to integrate Blu-ray into the Xbox experience”. Clear enough? He also dropped the nugget that Microsoft expects to trail the PS3 in sales again in February, but should have things turned around by April, just in time for the GTA IV launch, which should also be right around the time this rumor rears its head again. In the meantime, digital distribution anyone?

Belkin answers the need for USB-on-a-wall charger for gadgets

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Finally! Someone’s become sober enough to realize that, “Hey, shouldn’t there be USB chargers for wall outlets by now?”, and that pride goes to a company named Belkin. Its new Mini Surge Protector includes three standard wall outlets as well as two built-in USB ports for charging any cellphone, smartphone, or mp3 player, and possibly any other gadget that charges via USB. Say thank you and hallelujah!

Product feature highlights include a “360-degree rotating plug with 4 locking positions, complete surge protection through all outlets, compact, lightweight, efficient design, and a mini-USB cable to charge virtually any USB device—including blackberry and Motorola RAZR phones”. There is but one caveat, though, that the product page honestly points out. And that is, “[the] USB outlets cannot be used as a USB hub and does not transmit data. The powered USB outlets on this unit are intended solely for charging devices that can be charged via a USB interface.” But that’s understandable. I mean, who would want to transfer data to a wall? The Mini Surge Protector with USB Charger will retail for $24.99 but is currently just listed as “coming soon.”

Sony Ericsson’s Z555 arrives at the FCC’s front door for approval

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

We cannot seem to get enough of the FCC leaks, next up is the Sony Ericsson Z555, which has just hit the FCC for approval. In case you’ve forgotten, the Z555 was unveiled alongside a slew of new Sony Ericsson phones back at CES 2008 in Las Vegas. Its key features include an embedded OLED screen on top of its exterior flap that shows the time, among other things, and it also supports gesture-based controls via an accelerometer, enabling a user to silence an incoming call (or ignore it entirely) just by shaking the handset. It also includes a 1.3-megapixel camera, FM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and a Memory Stick Micro slot. As you can see, the Z555 is a pretty basic phone. And it is—it’s pretty, AND it’s basic.
