Sony Vaio Gets Pimped

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

If you like the Sony VAIO, but deem the designt too mundane for your taste, take a look at this.

Presenting Sony VAIO’s Expression Collection. There are no major changes to the laptop, but the mere fact that you could actually customise it would surely please the fashionistas. Here are the choices you have to choose from:

Colours:

  • Pink
  • Blue
  • Black

Pattern:

  • Victorian Lace - A design resembling laces made during the Victorian era
  • Flora - a floral design, of couse
  • Leaf - A Japanese-inspired spring-type design

Keyboard fonts:

  • Bradley Hand
  • Copperplate
  • Synchro
  • FZ Standard

Customisation of the the VAIO’s looks incurs no additional fees, but customisation of the specs will cost you additional charges. Granted, many people buy a laptop because of its specs and not its looks, but then again, looking pretty won’t hurt one bit.

General Electric rolls out new digital camera

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

General Electric has a new digital camera to tantalize the masses with, and this time their effort has resulted in a 12-megapixel camera which will be released on the HSN network this coming Saturday. it will retail for $199.99, and comes bundled with a black camera case and ArcSoft software package. You will be able to choose from silver and deep red colors, where the rear LCD measures 2.7″ with a 3x optical zoom lens and ISO 3200 sensitivity accompanying it. You will also be able to (hopefully) snap better shots with its blink detector and a smile detector.

Big Daddy keyboard is awesome

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

There are certain quarters who find it difficult to ease themselves into playing a musical instrument, despite having a rigorous and disciplined schedule only to find that the original inner fire has just had its last embers blown out. The Five Key Keyboard, also known as Big Daddy, could dispel such feelings. Created by Michael Robson who described as a “circuit bent keyboard”, this 27″ x 52″ x 41″ device won’t find any place in an orchestra but it is definitely a conversation starter where home decorative items are concerned.

Boombox backpack, for Stormtroopers that like to get down

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Do you remember back in the day when people were all walking around with boomboxes up on their shoulders? I actually never saw anyone do that near where I lived, but I guess it was popular in the big cities. Those days have all since passed, however, this Reppo II backpack seems to be trying to bring it back in a new way.

This backpack is just nuts. It is made of a hard outer shell which houses not only a pair of speakers, but an amplifier too. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want that thing buzzing up against my spine for any length of time.

This is currently only a concept idea, though at least one prototype has been created. I have to admit that this does look pretty cool, though it doesn’t seem very practical. I just want to get a picture of a Stormtrooper wearing one of these.

Acer launches the Gemstone Blue

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

I can’t help but be awed by the svelte beauty of Acer’s latest laptop baby, the Gemstone Blue, aka Acer Aspire 6920, and while reading its technical specifications and features, I can’t help but wonder whether Acer has created a mobile computing machine or a mobile multimedia entertainment product? The Aspire 6920 breaks away from the laptop norm and moves towards the direction of the latest media consoles.

From it’s 16-inch full HD 1920 x 1080 Cine Crystal TFT LCD to its DDR2 667MHz memory, you can easily ascertain that Acer is actually launching a portable multimedia machine rather than a business computing laptop. It has a touch-sensitive CineDash Media control which is said to respond quickly to the lightest contact. This is certainly one feature that users would definitely find useful, as traditional laptops tend to have slow-responding controls.

Another proof of the Gemstone Blue’s multimedia usage inclination is the Dolby Home Theater Tuba CineBass booster with integrated speakers. It’s like having a fully functional home entertainment system minus the wirings and extra speakers and amplifiers. The Aspire 6920 has everything you need for great a sounding entertainment home entertainment system, err mobile laptop, right inside its body.

What about power? Well with a machine like the Gemstone Blue which is aimed to give users an enhanced entertainment experience, it is expected that such laptop should sport all the latest processing technology that a laptop of its caliber should possess. Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, Mobile Intel PM965 Express Chipset and Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 4965AGN network connection, this is the finest processor and chipset that you could get Intel technology today.

While looking at the Acer Aspire 6920, I can’t help but glance at my trusty older model Aspire. It’s probably time for an upgrade.
