Blinged out bandages

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

I know this must have happened to you a million times as well . . . you’re just about to go down the catwalk at the Paris fashion show, but you’ve cut your cheek on one of the crystal champagne flutes. What to do?

Slap on one of these high-fashion bandages over your boo-boo, adjust your outfit (which is the size of a bandage anyway), and off you go! Now you’ve started another fashion trend, though rapper Nelly may claim that honor.

Blinged out bandages with 4 Swarovski crystals are available in three colors (white, red and pink), and one little tin sells for $12 at Charles and Marie.

Designed by Fabian Seibert, who also created the trendy ace-type bandage replacement in 5 bright colors.

For accident prone style-setters.

T-Mobile announce HotSpot@Home Talk Forever

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

T-Mobile is rolling out a new HotSpot@Home service, this time its the Talk Forever plan and it should build on the success of the current HotSpot@Home plan for cell phones. The HotSpot@Home Talk Forever plan is a similar setup as the cell phone service except its used for landline calling and allows for unlimited nationwide calling from home.

The new Talk Forever plan is an additional $10 per month, which sounds like a good deal. The main drawback right now is that the service requires a new HotSpot@Home router and is currently only available in Seattle or Dallas. No word on when T-Mobile will roll this out to additional areas.

Receiving mixed signals on the Cloudbook availability

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Today is the day that the Cloudbook is set to begin shipping. After a few delays we have reached the launch date once again, the Everex website still refers to the 2/21/08 date, so far so good.

With that ZaReason, who currently seem to be the only company to actually ship a Cloudbook have announced they will discontinue selling the laptop. ZaReason is citing they will stop selling the laptop because of all the pre-orders they took, then had to cancel because of Everex. That caused them to lose a lot of money due to “bank transaction fees” because of the refunds.

With that bad news, it seems like we may actually see the Cloudbook today after all, at none other than Wal-Mart. The big-box retailer has added the Cloudbook to their website, but it is currently just listed as “Coming Soon” with an online availability only showing “Out Of Stock.” Good news on that is they are still planning to have it retail for $399.

So while we still cannot purchase the Cloudbook from anyone it seems like we are getting closer.

Samsung’s YP-P2 gets firmware v3.15, a handful of new features

We don’t want to get too granular on these firmware updates, but it looks like another YP-P2 re-up has imbued the device with some interesting new features. Apparently, version 3.15 adds three new games to your device, the ability to record FM radio as an MP3, new repeat functions, control over the speed of music playback (which we think is totally boss), and EmoTure 1.5, which has a handful of improved features (or so we’re told). The whole shebang is available right now for your downloading pleasure… so go grab it.

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Its now official, all six major studios are now supporting Blu-ray. In a statement, Paramount said they “are pleased that the industry is moving to a single high-definition format, as we believe it is in the best interest of the consumer.” Paramount has not given any details on any release schedule, as of now they will simply “monitor consumer adoption and determine our release plans accordingly.”

The format war is over, and all of the studios have now pledged their support to Blu-ray. Now its just a matter of time before we have any movie we may want available on Blu-ray.

Available in 1080p resolution ¥400,000 (about $3,700) 46-inch and ¥290,000 ($2,685) 40-inch configurations or a ¥200,000 ($1,852) 32-inch model offering 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution. Each set features Sony’s 120Hz Motion Flow tech, a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, 24p True Cinema mode, Bravia Sync HDMI control, Bravia Engine 2 processing, and a bevy of jacks including 3x HDMI, 2x S-Video, 3x composite and yes, Ethernet. ChatterBowl:The Talking Pet Bowl

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

From now on, you don’t have to worry about your pet not eating their meals while you’re away. With the talking pet bowl, your little bundle of fleas joy would be chowing their meals obediently.

Manufactured by Candian firm, Contech Electronics, the talking bowl aptly called “Chatterbowl,” makes pets feel fuzzy inside even without you around. The bowl has a sensor which detects movement within six inches of it and sets off a 10-second recorded message. Pets are reportedly finding it satisfactory, that they’ll deliberately set it off. Invented by Jay Taylor of Arizona, USA, the Chatterbowl is sold to British pet owners at 14 plus postage.

Mossberg: “I can recommend the X300 for road warriors without hesitation”

Walt’s full review of the Lenovo Thinkpad X300 is now available. As usual for the man, you also get the bonus (or burden) of a detailed comparison with Apple’s competing product which in this case is the macbook air. For those of you who remember Walt’s MacBook Air review, that quote — “I can recommend the X300 for road warriors without hesitation” — stands in stark contrast to Mr. Mossberg’s take on Apple’s beautiful but compromised ultra-portable. As Walt points out, the biggest differences between the two are the selection of ports, built-in DVD or second battery, and a removable main battery afforded by the X300’s relatively thick chassis. Of course, the choice of OS is also a consideration since the X300 can’t run OS X while the MBA can run Vista. Walt does lament the fact that the X300 is only offered with an SSD. As such, it’s limited to a maximum of 64GB of storage and contributes to the X300’s relatively high price tag. It starts at $2,500 with a stripped-down, half-sized battery and no DVD — $3,000 gets you the more popular full-sized battery and DVD config. Walt’s aggressive, full-size battery tests resulted in “weaker battery life” at 3 hours and 5 minutes compared to the MBA’s 3 hours and 29 minutes. That said, the Lenovo easily trumps the MBA with 5 hours and 15 minutes of juice when configured with both a full-sized and half-sized battery. The choice seems pretty clear at this point: form or function, which will it be sir?

Panasonic unveils Wii-proof Plasma TVs

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Imagine if your TV was strong enough to withstand any Wii-mote strikes, you could then indulge in your favorite Wii games wholeheartedly without worrying about accidentally damaging your expensive TV. Panasonic has unveiled a new line of Wii-proof plasma TVs at its HD Networking Conference in Valencia, Spain.

Panasonic claims that the plasmas can resist up to 4 joules of energy, which is enough to protect it from a flying Wii-mote unless it is purposely thrown with great force…
