Palm pokes fun at RIM’s recent trouble

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Palm is attempting to win over some angry blackberry users. In a new ad campaign Palm is clearly making fun of and taking advantage of RIM’s recent nationwide BlackBerry outage.

Except with all the trouble that Palm has been having as of late, with stores closing, unsatisfied customers and the dreaded Foleo its almost like Palm is the wrong company to poke fun at another. It is nice to see them still kicking though.

The ads are being run on Palm’s homepage and are also said to be running in various newspapers as well.

RocketLife - life in the fast lane of photo creation technology

Friday, February 15th, 2008

If you use Snapfish, Shutterfly ,or Kodak Gallery, you’re very familiar with the wonders of photo creation technology and have probably made countless photo books, calendars, Christmas cards, or coffee mugs with a darling photo of your baby for your mother-in-law. I know I have.

So why do we need another one? Rocketlife claims to be the “next generation of photo creation technology that revolutionizes the way that consumers create all types of personal photo products online.” What’s different? With RocketLife, there is no need to log into an account (though of course you’ll have to create one to PAY) and your projects are stored on YOUR computer, not the service. However, the big difference seems to be with the “Smart Arrangement” Technology which intuitively lays out and designs photos into “artistic works of art.”

If you’re one of those people who struggle with design and tend to be a tad indecisive, then Rocketlife can make you a collage or photo in seconds. It’s like having your own designer genie. As with their competitors, photos can also be manually cropped, rotated, and manipulated, with photo treatments, such as tints, blurs, lighting, textures, text, and graphics, with the click of a mouse.

RocketLife’s “3D Digital Merchandising” does give you a better vision of your final project, as with the mug I made for my lovely mother-in-law for Mother’s Day. (Scoring points here!)

But don’t take my word for it…sign up for our newsletter and you’ll have a chance to win a coupon code so you can try it for yourself.

AT&T Palm Centro shows its true face

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Another image of the soon to be released white AT&T branded Palm Centro has turned up online. This new image seems a little more real than the previous image that had been circulating and it seems like it will either be a love it or hate it handset. Rumor has the Centro becoming available on February 19 and retailing for $99. A nice white handset with the keyboard in a mixed white and green, personally I think the green just adds some character.

Intelligent cardiac assist fabric beats your heart for you

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Posted Feb 15th 2008 4:20AM by Nilay Patel
Filed under: Misc. gadgetsCrazy artificial hearts and even heart-tissue based robots are nothing new — to say nothing of the Pimp My Heart bass-booster — but actually squeezing your existing heart to extend its life is definitely a novel idea. The concept, from a team at Leeds University, is based around an intelligent, motorized webbing that wraps around your heart. When sensors indicate that your pump needs a jump, the webbing contracts, squeezing blood through your body. It’s an elegant take on a pretty low-tech solution, and the team has high hopes the the uncomplicated nature of the device will least to applications from transplant assistance to heart therapy when simulator trials are finished and the webbing leaves the prototype stage — but sadly, there’s no word on when that might be.

Coby announces new touch screen PMP

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Usually, people assume that all touch screen PMP’s are knock offs the iPod Touch, they are usually right, however, this new Coby PMP is not really like the ipod Touch at all. In fact, it is more like Samsung’s P2.

To begin with the Coby MP-835, it measures out at 52 x 97 x 10mm, which is pretty thin and compact. It features a main button located on the top left corner, other than typical device buttons being in the center of the bottom. It sports a nice 3-inch screen with a resolution of 480 x 272. Additionally, it comes with USB connectivity and SD memory expansion. It supports a variety of formats including MP3, WMA, OGG, WMV, JPG, BMP, GIF and TXT. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have support for a whole lot of video formats. So far, it is available in 2GB and 4GB models, however, no word on pricing or availability just yet.

It’s also Bluetooth 2.0+EDR so you can expect to push a data rate of up to 3Mbps. Princeton’s 10-meter adapter released in August now looks like school on Sundays — no Class 1. Look for the PTM-UBT4 to hit Japan and beyond for ¥2,980 (about $28) later this month.
