A Sugar Affair: Delicious Etsy eats

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Etsy is my go-to for special and unique gift-giving (to others and myself!). I had no idea it was also a center for the delicious and decadent too! Thanks to Etsy’s daily, “featured seller” column, I uncovered “A Sugar Affair,” online bakery run by decorating-extraordinaire Lacie.

Due to overwhelming responses, Lacie isn’t taking new custom orders for Valentine’s Day, but she has plenty of treats in stock.

* Valentines Goodies–Chocolate-covered decorated Oreos, Love Notes Petite Fours
* Decorated Cookies–Birthday cake, pirates, princess-themed, and more
* Cookies–Regular and jumbo chocolate-chip and jumbo chocolate-chip butter-cream sandwiches
* Brownies–Caramelicious Turtles
* Chocolate Pretzels–Dipped in chocolate and rolled in crushed and whole candies
* Marshmallow Pops–Marshmallows on-a-stick and double-dipped in chocolate
* Cookies for a Cause–Pink Breast Cancer ribbons

Prices: Very affordable! $9-$27

Does it Blend? 1,000W of Raw Blending Power from Wolfgang Puck

Blenders are becoming popular and I have no idea why. Please do not misunderstand, I like blenders, I even use them from time to time, I just do not understand the fascination with overpriced and overpowered models. Realistically, you are only going to be blending things that you could normally get through with your teeth, right? How much power do you need?

Wolfgang Puck answers that question with 1000W. They are not messing around here, there are six blades that spin clockwise and four stirring blades that spin counter clockwise. There should be no more unblended well of food in the middle of your blender. What more needs to be said? It has a 50-oz capacity, die-cast aluminum housing and a locking lid for safety. The price is not that bad either, when you consider the cost of a good CuisineArt model.

Dell teases like a girl with XPS 630 gaming desktop

Check that evil scowl will you. You’re looking into the menacing red grill of Dell’s newest gaming desktop the XPS 630. Dell’s site modestly teases, “Here comes a new challenger.” Challenger eh, not leader? Come on Dell, you’re not going to generate any gaming hype with such tepidity. Drop in some NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GX2 graphics and say it loud, boy. Just not too loud, you don’t want to step on the toes of your Alienware subsidiary.

Hisgadgetoric: The Curta mechanical calculator peppers our eyes with nostalgia

Look, we know that the Curta Calculator is old. 1948 old in fact, when it was first conceived by Curt Herzstark while imprisoned in the Buchenwald concentration camp. Still, why not introduce the post HP35 generation to what was widely hailed as the best portable calculator of its time? Besides, with that WWII intrigue and satisfying mechanical grind, what’s not to love? See it in action after the break.

Mmm, the Satin Silver PS3. Scheduled for a ¥39,980 (about $374) March 6th release in Japan with matching ¥5,500 (about $51) DualShock 3 controller. The disk capacity you ask? 40GB, that’s your only option in Japan albeit in your choice of three colors.

Microsoft looking to bring Surface home sooner

Even though the first commercial deployments of Microsoft’s Surface have been delayed until spring, it seems that enthusiasm for the tech is still strong in Redmond — enough so that Steve Ballmer told reporters today that work on a consumer version has been sped up. The initial plan called for consumer-grade Surface products to, uh, surface in five years, but the demand for the tech is so high Ballmer said Microsoft is going to “follow our nose” and get it out ASAP. When that actually might be, we still don’t know, but hey — it’s not like we’re getting tired of that Big-Ass Table video anytime soon.

Whack it: USB Game

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Whack it! is a simple plug-and-play USB game that makes you remember the old days of arcade sessions. Are you ready to get the same warm feelings as before?

This game is very easy to play: just hit on the different moles as their lights pop up. There are 9 moles, and 3 colors - red, green, and yellow - and in theory, the person with best reflexes is suppose to win.

In order to make to have different game modes, there is the option to play for 30 seconds, or 1 minute. As for the points that decide who is the winner, they are marked on a LED scoreboard.

The USB Whack it! is priced at 11.95, close to 17.

It’s enough to get any Geeks juices flowing!

Nintendo Power Mints

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

From all the Nintendo related gadgets that we’ve seen at GadgetSpy, this is probably the one less involved with technology. Can you guess what it is?

Looks may deceive, and in this case that seems to be true. The Nintendo Power Mints looks like one of those old controllers, but in reality it is a mint “holder”.

If you’re a fan of Nintendo, or know someone who is, for $3,50 you can make their day and offer a classy product.

And once you’ve chomped through the mints you can use the tin to store other nerdy gamer accessories, like Gameboy cartridges.
