Loc8tor Lite, Find Lost Valuables Quickly And Easily

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

For the latest info on the coolest gadgets, emerging technology and wired madness, subscribe to our full news feed or have it delivered to your inbox. Always free. Always unique. Thanks for visiting!

The Loc8tor Lite is designed for people like me, who would lose their head if it was not connected to their body. The constant search for items is something I’m prepared to hand to over to this credit card sized gadget. The Loc8tor Lite the newest and smallest member of the Loc8tor family. Like the rest of the family it can be used to find almost anything which has a homing tag attached to it - keys, cameras, TV remotes, pets, mobile phones, wallets, purses or even the car. It uses RFID to guide you to within an inch of the small homing tag.

From the site:

Unlike anything else currently available the Loc8tor’s audio and visual cues from the handheld point you in the right direction and will guide you to the exact location of the missing Tag / item whether it’s stuffed down the back of the sofa or left behind in a shop. It will literally take you minutes (even seconds) to find things that would normally have you hunting around for hours and maybe never found at all.

With amazing accuracy you will be guided to within an inch/2.5cm whether you are indoors or out, in complete darkness or in a noisy room.

To find your item, turn around in a full circle then walk in the direction of the strongest signal shown on the handheld – It’s as easy as that!!!

Price: £44.99 (about $88 USD) which comes with 2 tags. Additional tags can be purchased separately. For more details vist our friends at GeekAlerts.

We’re still at aloss for much hard data, but at least now Samsung’s Korean site is officially acknowledging the existence of the GX-20 DSLR, which has a 2.7-inch live view LCD, 14.6 megapixel high dynamic range APS-C sized CMOS sensor, dust reduction, RAW and JPEG modes, ISO to 3200 (with a 6400 setting), and a March release date — somewhere, for some price. More as we get it.

HP updates Compaq DC7800 with optional 16GB SSD

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

HP has announced an update to their ultra-slim line of desktops, now offering the option to include SSD storage. The Compaq DC7800 is currently available and pricing begins at just $729, however the optional 16GB SSD will run you an extra $328, which is almost half the price of the computer itself. The DC7800 comes standard with a 80GB 7200 rpm hard drive with an additional option to add a 160GB 7200 rpm hard drive for an additional $16.

While SSD storage seems like a nice option, at this point I would be more willing to spend the extra money if I were purchasing a laptop. Is SSD storage on a desktop really worth the premium price that it currently demands?

Baby Quasar: Electronic elixir?

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Suckers for a quick-fix, we’ve featured a number of home healing, anti-aging products (Zeno, Marvel Mini, NuFace, etc.) however, another electronic elixir has made a striking debut. Baby Quasar uses Red and Amber light, both known to have powerful anti-inflammatory properties and promote Fibroblasts to increase the body’s production of collagen (the cheek and lip plumping stuff we lose as we age).

While we haven’t tried this device (it’s pricey at $449) blogsters across the web have claimed to noticed fewer lines, wrinkles, and large pores. Others tout clarity over discoloration and less new acne. Still others claim that hair loss is diminished and new hair growth taking place.

Beauty becomes us all; if Baby Q can turn the tide I’ll be the first in line, until then I’ll keep up with my 6-8 glasses of H2O a day, vitamins, exercise, and moisturizer.

Four light wavelengths: amber, red, and infrared.

Price: $449 at Amazon.

Nokia channels new “Crystal Prism” phone

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Meet the uber-styled Nokia 7900 Crystal Prism announced today.  Designed in conjunction with Frédérique Daubal, the phone sports diamond shaped keys and geometric patterned decor aimed at attracting the glamorous.  But the good looks don’t stop with just the aluminum panels.

Buyers will be treated to 49, yes 49, different light color options for the keypad and a matching headset.  The graphics on the phone are laser etched and designed to be unique to each handset.  And on board, the phone is stocked with Mr. Daubal’s exclusive wallpapers to make the phone look even better.

The phone specs are rather bland in comparison:,proving Nokia spent the R+D money on design, not function.  The phone features a 2MP camera, 1GB internal storage, sports a 3G radio and has an OLED screen.

The phone will be released in Q1 at 375 Euros or $543 USD.  Ouch.

LG lets DX540B projector loose in Korea

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Filed under: Displays Coming in squarely at the opposite end of the spectrum of the monster 1080p projector it showed off at CES, LG has now let loose its new, mostly business-minded DX540B model, although it appears to be confined to Korea for the time being. If that doesn’t preclude you, you can look for this one to boasts a standard XGA resolution, along with the ability to “scale up” to SVGA+ (or 1400 x 1050), plus some seemingly decent specs all around, including 4,000 ANSI lumens and a 2,800:1 contrast ratio. If that meets your needs, you can apparently snag one now for a mere 2.9 million Korean Won, or just about $3,000.

Two more for ya from Pentax — the pocketable S12 and E50, which we’re going to dig right into if that’s okay with the crowd. The former features a 12-megapixel sensor, VGA movie mode, 3x optical zoom, 2.5-inch LCD monitor, face recognition, 5-point autofocus, 21MB of internal storage space, support for SD / SDHC cards, USB 2.0 connectivity, video out (NTSC and PAL), PictBridge functionality and ISO up to 3,200. As for the E50, it trims down to an 8.1-megapixel CCD sensor, 2.4-inch LCD, 3-point autofocus system, 9.5MB of built-in memory and an ISO limit of 1,600, but most everything else mimics its aforementioned sibling. Catch ‘em both this March for $279.95 and $149.95, respectively, and just in case you were curious to the whereabouts of the oh-so-similar A40, we’re told that it’s finally set to hit the streets next month for $299.95.
